Carol Ann (VanAken) Crossman

Carol Ann VanAken Crossman, 76, of Pittsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026. She was born on November 30, 1949, in Niagara, New York.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dan Crossman, who passed away in December 2024. Married in 1976, their love story spanned decades and was marked by devotion, partnership, and deep affection. Dan loved Carol deeply, and she carried that love with her always.

She was a devoted mother to Marc Crossman (Amber) and Matt Crossman, and a proud, loving grandmother to Mackenzie Crossman, Lucy Crossman, and Drew Crossman. Carol also leaves behind her brother, David VanAken, and her sister, Lorrie Cammack, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Carol loved people and truly never met a stranger. She had a special gift for making others feel welcome and cared for. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren, and she would do anything to help them. She found happiness in baking, crafts, and spending time outdoors, and her home was often filled with warmth, creativity, and laughter.

A lifelong giver, Carol volunteered at her children’s and granddaughter’s schools and supported her sons during their years in the Boy Scouts, always showing up with encouragement, time, and love. Her kindness and steady presence touched countless lives.

Carol courageously lived with progressive dementia in her later years. In honor of her memory and the journey she faced with grace, the family asks that donations be made to the Dementia Society of America in lieu of flowers.

Carol’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and connection. Her family and friends will carry her spirit forward in the many lives she touched and the countless small acts of kindness she shared so freely.

A Memorial Service will be held in Carol's honor on Monday, February 23th at 11AM at Griffin Chapel, Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory.
